Marin IJ: Mill Valley Residents Share Stories, Recipes in New Cookbook

A meatloaf recipe made for a veteran coming home from Vietnam. A casserole dish full of comfort on cold nights. These are just some of the recipes found within the pages of the new ā€œMill Valley Community Cookbook,ā€ an eclectic collection of recipes and the sweet, funny and historic stories behind them by former and current Mill Valley residents. Created by the Mill Valley Public Library, with support from the Mill Valley Library Foundation and Friends of the Mill Valley Public Library, the cookbook launched earlier this month with a potluck featuring many of the cookbook’s participants. A limited number of free copies are available at the library for people to come and take, and copies of the cookbook will be added to the library’s collection for people to check out.

Someone’s Written a Children’s Book About SF’s Famed Bob’s Donuts in Mill Valley and Elsewhere

SF donut shop institution Bob’s Donuts has been further immortalized as the subject of the new children’s book Bob’s Donuts for Breakfast, which tells the tale of an intrepid dog and squirrel who are trying to get themselves some donuts. It’s been a heck of a year or so for the 65-year-old family-owned SF favorite Bob’s Donuts. The 24-hour donut destination had to move to a new spot on Polk Street after some sort of landlord dispute, but their new location at 1720 Polk Street just opened in February. Meanwhile, the staff had been dealing with a tragic hit-and-run accident that severely injured one of their bakers. But now there’s a sweet topping on a year of tumult, as KGO has the interesting story that someone has published a children’s book about Bob’s Donuts.

Bay Area Reporter: After Spahr Center’s Closure & With a Major Pride Event Set for June 7th in Mill Valley, The Marin LGBTQ+ Center Is Leasing Space from the Marin Multi-Cultural Center at 709 Fifth Ave.

The new center has raised $50,000 thus far, Spahr said. The center’s rent is $1,200 a month, Otton confirmed. The top expenses are rent, insurance, and program costs, Spahr stated.Ā ā€œWe too have basic operational expenses and will use some for community building events,ā€ Spahr stated. ā€œAs you know, we are all volunteers and we hope to raise enough money to be able to employ staff one day. It is a community effort.ā€

Spring and Summer Calendar for Mt. Tam Church. Holy Week, Easter Sunday, Mayor Meet-and-Greet and Vacation Bible School! Mt. Tam Church is gearing up for our spring and summer activities to which the entire community is invited. The first is Holy Week in April including our Easter worship service and children’s egg hunt: Palm Sunday Worship – Sunday, April 13th, 10:30am. Celebrate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem with palms, praise, and joyful worship. Maundy Thursday Service – Thursday, April 17th, 6:30pm.
