For 45 years, the Mill Valley Historical’s Society‘s Walk Into History annually has explored the people, places and things that serve as the foundation of our community.

The organization’s 2024 “Walk Into History” guided tour theme is: Community Gathering Places, set for Sunday, May 26 • 9am-3pm. Ticket sales start on this page on May 1.

Join a guided tour of gathering places in Mill Valley where people have come together over the years for community events, entertainment, recreation, and more. Visit sites along the route from the vibrant downtown area surrounding the old railroad depot to the quiet shaded spaces of Old Mill Park. Learn about how these spaces came to be and their role in creating and sustaining the community of Mill Valley.

Tours start at the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce office on Throckmorton Avenue and finish in the MV Library’s amazing History Room.

Tour start times are every 30 minutes from 9am and 3pm (last tour begins at 3pm).

Two special tours for children and their families will be offered at 9:45am and 12:45pm.

Children and youth are welcome and their tickets are free. Service dogs only, please.

The 2023 ‘Walk Into History’ followed the route of the Mt. Tam and Muir Woods Scenic Railway (also called the Mountain Railway) from the Depot to the trailhead at the northern end of Blithedale Canyon, designed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of old Engine No. 9 as was intended in 2020 and again in 2021 because the order for the engine was placed in 1920 and the engine arrived on the railroad in early 1921.
