After a 9-Year-Hiatus, The Redwoods Is Bringing Back the Celebration of Service Awards – This Event Recognizes Individuals of all ages whose service strengthens Mill Valley and enriches the lives of our seniors
As we look forward, we honor our history: after a nine-year hiatus, we are bringing back our beloved Celebration of Service Awards. Founded by Bob Canepa in 1994, this event recognizes individuals of all ages whose service strengthens Mill Valley and enriches the lives of our seniors. On Sunday, April 26th at 2pm, we will proudly revive this tradition, once again free and open to the public. We hope you’ll join us as we recognize community members in five categories: youth service, adult service, resident service, teaching excellence, and public safety.

This year, we’re not only participating in the Alzheimer’s Walk but also hosting our very first on-site walk event, bringing our local community together to raise awareness and support for Alzheimer’s care.

For now, given the current macro economic climate and profound changes in music festival economics, we have decided to take a pause in 2026 from producing the Mill Valley Music Festival. We will keep innovating and serving our members and community in every way we can. But for now, all these years later, we have decided to take a brief pause from producing the Mill Valley Music Fest in 2026. We’ll see you around town, and we’ll be back!

The Redwoods, A Community of Seniors, is hosting a fun-filled afternoon on Sunday, May 18th at 3pm. And here’s a bonus: Kids 12 and under get in for free — so it’s a great event for the whole family! Co-chairs Caroline Joachim and Wendy Nichols invite you to join us for a family “fun-raiser” in the garden with live music from Susan Z and The Winding Road, and The Redwoods’ own Rock the Ages choir. We’ll have delicious fare that all ages will enjoy from Stacey Scott Catering, with signature cocktails, beer, wine and lemonade, as well as activities for kids and adults, including cornhole, foosball, a photo booth, face painting, and balloon art.

Taking place each October, this 11-day event draws in thousands of cinephiles, screening creations from over 200 filmmakers in the town’s local theaters. Furthermore, if you visit during the summer, you can catch the Mountain Play, an outdoor musical production put on by the local theater troupe. This annual play is set on the Cushing Memorial Amphitheater stage against a breathtaking mountain backdrop.
