Update to Parking Regulations – May 27th Planning Commission Study Session
HERE’S A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INITIAL PLANNING COMMISSION CONVERSATION.
City planners are working to update the City’s parking regulations, which have not been updated in decades.
The City hired Walker Consultants to assist the City in collecting parking data and best practices to update the regulations.
The parking update will mainly focus on commercial parking regulations, which at times have hindered changes in uses, infill development, and broader economic development.
City planners invite and welcome public comments on the draft parking study and offer feedback to staff on proposed parking regulations at the May 27th Planning Commission Study Session (6:30pm; Mill Valley City Hall, 26 Corte Madera Avenue).
The Draft Parking Study and staff report for the Planning Commission Study Session will be available by 5pm Tuesday May 20th here. For more information, go to the project website. Sign up for e-mail notifications for future updates.

Project Background
The City of Mill Valley is currently studying an update to its longstanding parking ordinance (MVMC 20.060.090). Since the ordinance hasn’t been updated in decades, it has at times hindered infill development, changes in commercial businesses, new housing units, and broader economic development. The update process includes:
- Collecting parking data downtown, along Miller Avenue, and select sites throughout the city
- Engaging local stakeholders
- Researching best practices
- Proposing Parking Ordinance revisions informed by the data collection, experience utilizing the current parking ordinance, and current best practices.
