The acclaimed Starduster Orchestra, a Marin mainstay since its founding in 1996, has performed at venues across Marin, including the Throckmorton Theatre, the Community Center and many more. But it’s safe to say that their May 15th performance will garner plenty of eyes and ears.

The group, a traditional big band specializing in swing and other dance music from the 30s, 40s and 50s, is set to play a free set from 4-6pm on the Downtown Plaza at 87 Throckmorton Ave, adding a new sonic slice to the array of live music in downtown Mill Valley. The performance comes on the heels of the September 2020 passing of Sausalito resident and saxophonist Joe Agro, who co-founded Starduster Orchestra with other Marin musicians 21 years ago. He was 78.

Five days later, the plaza will be rocking – but very quietly – for Silent Disco in the Plaza, an all-ages dance party with attendees getting down to music listened on wireless headphones. Rather than using a speaker system, music is broadcast to wireless headphones worn by the participants. Those without the headphones hear no music, giving the effect of a group of people dancing to nothing.

The event will feature three music station options to choose from. Enjoy the rockin’ tunes from the 60’s and 70’s, dance to the beats of the 80’s and 90’s, or get your groove on to some of today’s best contemporary hits. Whatever the station, you’re sure to have a blast.
