Dear Friends of Mill Valley and the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival,

Something extraordinary is on the horizon for the 2025 Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival—and you can help bring it to life.

Recently, a generous sponsor challenged us to think bigger, dream bolder, and find fresh ways to elevate our beloved Festival. I believe what I’m about to share not only meets that challenge— it soars past it.

A Vision That Paints the Whole Town

Each year, our Festival poster contest showcases the creative spirit of Mill Valley. The 2025 winning design is a stunning abstract map of Mill Valley — alive with color, movement, and possibility. (See below.)

Now imagine this:
We transform that artwork into a giant, interactive Community Art Project (CAP) where thousands of Festival-goers paint a small section, until — brushstroke by brushstroke — we create one shared masterpiece.

This wouldn’t just be art you look at — it would be art you live. A hands-on, heart-connected experience that unites neighbors, visitors, and families in the joy of creating something lasting.

The Artist Who Brings People Together

At the recent Dead & Co concert in Golden Gate Park, I saw a CAP in action. It was electric—people laughing, painting, connecting in the moment.

The artist behind that magic is Robert Louthan. He’s not only an accomplished painter but also a master at weaving communities together through collaborative art. When we met in Old Mill Park, I knew instantly he was the one to bring this vision to life for Mill Valley. Robert would typically charge $8,000 for a CAP of this nature. He is offering to do the project for $6,800 in honor of the Festival’s 68th year.

Your Chance to Make It Happen

Here’s where you come in: We’re looking for a sponsor — an individual, a local business, a community organization — to fund this project.

In return, the sponsor would own the completed piece, or they might donate it to Mill Valley as a permanent public artwork for all to enjoy.

It’s a rare opportunity to sponsor something beautiful, participatory, and enduring — a project that will be remembered not just for the finished art, but for the countless joyful moments that created it.

Please help us find that person, business, or organization that can make this happen.
