Fire Station #6 Consolidation Ceremony.
In January 2020, the City of Mill Valley and the Southern Marin Fire District entered into a shared services agreement that sought to leverage existing staff from both agencies to create a new, single management team for both agencies. The move was a first step toward an eventual consolidation of the two agencies, tightening ties between the Mill Valley fire stations at 1 Hamilton Drive and 26 Corte Madera Ave. and SMFD fire stations in Sausalito and Tam Valley.
Though the agencies have had a shared services agreement since 2014, in October 2022, officials from both agencies backed a formal consolidation. The historic event came on the heels of the effective consolidation date of July 1, 2023 and has been strongly supported by the Local 1775, fire department administration/City staff, elected from both agencies and the Marin County Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo).
On July 11 at 5:30pm, the Southern Marin Fire Protection District invites the community to join the City of Mill Valley Council, Southern Marin Fire District Board of Directors, and personnel of Southern Marin Fire District to a celebration of the consolidation of the Mill Valley Fire Department with Southern Marin Fire Protection District.
The consolidation ceremony and ribbon cutting event will take place at Fire Station #6 in the City of Mill Valley at 5:30 PM at 26 Corte Madera Ave. Reception and refreshments to follow the ribbon cutting ceremony.
