After a Hugely Successful Ballot Measure L in 2024 to Address Massive Infrastructure Needs of $150 Million to $180 Million in the Next 10-15 Years, City Officials Now Look to Implement the 1% Sales Tax Hike, Effective April 1st

Effective April 1, 2025, the sales tax rate for the City of Mill Valley will increase from 8.25% to 9.25% All taxpayers will receive a special notice regarding new sales and use tax rates effective April 1, 2025, 30 days before the new rates start either via e-notice or a letter format that has a ā€œSpecial Noticeā€ on the top. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration will post the notice on their Special Notices and Notification Letters website. https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/news/special-notices-and-notification-letters.htm. Approved by Mill Valley voters with the passage of Measure L in November 2024, this local sales tax increase of 1% is estimated to bring our community an additional $4.2 million in revenue per year. The City will begin receiving funds in June 2025 to directly support community identified priorities such as wildfire prevention, roads, bridges, emergency routes, flood mitigation, hillside stabilization, and repairing City facilities like the Public Safety Building, Community Center, Library, as well as City playgrounds and fields.

The City Council Backed aĀ Fee Waiver Policy that Includes a Pair of Voter Precincts in Marin City – 31228 and 31229 – the Waiver Could Include Staffing Fees, Deposits, Permit Fees, Facility Rentals and More

Arts & Recreation are steeped into the fabric of Mill Valley, and this week, the City Council unanimously made a welcoming stride toward giving more Southern Marin residents, specifically our long-neglected, immediate neighbors just over the smallest of hills in Marin City. The council agreed to support, in partnership, aĀ fee waiver policy that includes specifically includes a pair of voter precincts in Marin City – 31228 and 31229. The approved Fee Waiver Policy would include staffing fees, deposits, permits fees, facility rental fees and more. Mill Valley Arts & Recreation staff would be able to approve a fee waiver or reduction of up to $2,000, with requests for fee waivers over $2,000 will be sent to the Parks & Recreation Commission for consideration

“Babies are everywhere in Mill Valley. I imagine in my previous work-life schedule I didn’t see them all. Or perhaps there are just more of them? Either way, babies can be seen in carriages pushed by either moms, dads or nannies. The problem is they are pushed in the streets. Sidewalks are not always an option because they’re often blocked and/or difficult to push a carriage on. I missed all the baby action when I worked. Arriving home well past baby bedtimes made certain carriage pushing was not on my radar. So, if you want to see some Mill Valley babies, get out during the day — just be careful driving!”

Marin IJ: Mill Valley Looks to Rehabilitate Roof of Historic Mill

ā€œIf you look under it from the inside, you can see daylight throughout it, and there’s some places vegetation is starting to grow and get hold, and it’s an untreated wood-shingle roof, so it has a fairly short lifespan,ā€ said Mark Neumann, the city’s deputy director of operations and utilities. The creekside mill in Cascade Canyon was one of the first built in the Bay Area, according to the Mill Valley Historical Society. Erected around 1835 by John Reed, it is one of the oldest standing mills in California.

Mill Valley Winterfest Was an Absolute Blast and a Tremendous Way to Kick Off the Holiday Season! See You Again on Dec. 7th, 2025 on the Plaza!

Winterfest, the 94941’s annual holiday celebration produced by the Mill Valley Chamber and Organized Chaos Events, returned to the Downtown Plaza on December 8th, drawing another massive outpouring of residents, participants and friends. The event was once again an absolute blockbuster, with more than 1,000 locals and friends gathering on the plaza throughout the day and an evening of good cheer, including performances from the Happy Feet Tap Dancers, Rita & the Cosmos, Roco Dance & Fitness for thrilling performances of both hip-hop and contemporary dance, as well as the duo of Ellie McKee and Andrew McKee, who performed a broad array of both holiday tunes and classics through a bulk of the afternoon. We invited Santa on stage following his arrival in a beautiful convertible, and then he dashed off to his throne to greet the children. The beautiful Elecrtic Train kept kiddos and their families busy and happy throughout the day.
