Tam High School Students Launch Tutoring Program at Mill Valley Middle School
Mill Valley Middle School (MVMS) is thrilled to announce an exciting new tutoring initiative aimed at providing enhanced academic support for its students. Spearheaded by former MVMS student Brady Dresner in collaboration with 6th grade Counselor Erin Sheedy, this program is designed to foster collaboration and promote academic growth within our community. Starting Monday, October 14, 2024, students from Tam High will be available in the MVMS library every Monday and Thursday from 3:05pm to 4pm. They will offer free tutoring sessions across all subjects, ensuring that every student has the resources they need to succeed.

The Redwoods, Mill Valley’s Community of Seniors, has been working to reduce its water usage through participation in Marin Water’s “Cash for Grass” program that offers rebates to homeowners and businesses that replace grass with drought tolerant landscapes. Since completing the project in August, The Redwoods, home to over 300 low- and moderate-income seniors, has achieved a reduction of water usage by a third over last year.

The return of the massive Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival is always a massive lift for music lovers all over the Bay Area, particularly with a lineup that once again leans heavily on its ‘hardly strictly’ mantra and has booked an array of bands across the musical landscape. Organizers of the event, as usual, are making sure that the event benefits the larger Bay Area community, and is doing so by continuing its “Hardly Strictly Out of the Park,” a series of nighttime live performances at a handful of venues around town, including a quartet of shows at our own venerable Sweetwater Music Hall.

One of the Redwoods, Mill Valley’s Community of Seniors’ most cherished events returned last year after a four-year hiatus. The Annual Bazaar is back in full force again in 2024, with dates set for Friday, October 18th (10am-3pm) and Sunday, October 19 (10am-3pm). The Bazaar is a resident-sponsored fundraiser that supports their programs and activities. The resident-sponsored fundraiser supports Redwoods programs and activities. In the Boutique, visitors can expect to find vintage clothing, framed works of art, and many exceptional items. Available in other locations are china, glassware, knitwear, books, electronic devices, succulents, baked goods, and more treasures.

Prader-Willi Homes of California has announced ALIVE AND KICKING, a benefit concert on Sunday, October 6, at the iconic Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. This evening will bring together a stellar lineup of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass favorites, including Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes, Bill Kirchen, Austin de Lone, the legendary Lost Planet Airmen – five original members of Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen. The show will raise crucial funds for Prader-Willi Homes of California, formerly known as The Richard de Lone Special Housing Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing and supporting residential living for individuals with Prader-Willi syndrome.
