The inaugural Mill Valley Neighborfest launches this May throughout various communities in Mill Valley encouraging residents to get to know their neighbors. The Mill Valley Neighborfest is presented by the Southern Marin Fire District in partnership with the Southern Marin Neighborhood Response Groups program in an effort to help build connections and trust between neighbors.
Feedback at a recent Neighborhood Response Group (NRG) drill helped spark the idea to reinvigorate support for the program. The NRG program is a neighbors-helping neighbors effort that helps connect individuals and neighborhoods to resources, education, and training that will help them to prepare for and respond to emergencies and disasters.
“Knowing your neighbors is proven to boost the health, happiness and longevity of communities…Communities in Mill Valley will be coming together to connect, build trust and have fun!” said Leah Curtis, Southern Marin NRG Coordinator. “ We also hope it encourages discussions about safety and emergency preparedness.”
Mill Valley Neighborfest is hosted on the Joinable.us app to help promote neighbor get togethers. The program is being piloted in the City of Mill Valley and supported by the City of Mill Valley officials. Mill Valley residents are encouraged to host their own Neighborfest by visiting joinable.us/mv.
