Sound Summit celebrates its 10th anniversary on Saturday, September 13, as CAKE returns to the historic Mountain Theater to headline the daylong festival atop Mount Tamalpais that has brought both exceptional music and benefit to the mountain and Bay Area community alike over the past decade. The ever-engaging band first appeared at Mount Tam Jam in 2013, the show that Sound Summit producer Michael Nash orchestrated and inspired him to launch Sound Summit in 2015. Joining the genre-defying crowd favorite are female-driven Canadian alt-pop powerhouse Alvvays in their only California performance this year; Stand! – a very special Sound Summit celebration of musical icon Sly & The Family Stone featuring Taj Mahal, Narada Michael Walden, Martin Luther McCoy, Vicki Randle, Rustee Allen, members of Graham Central Station, and more; beloved indie rockers Real Estate; and self-described purveyors of “Cosmic Mountain Music,” Wolf Jett.

The Mountain Play is currently holding listening sessions and conducting a survey to collect valuable insights from the community to help build a new and stronger business model. However, it is crucial that the nonprofit have the financial wherewithal to embark on their work, despite having no full-sized spring production to generate earned revenue. This campaign is being matched by a group of Mountain Play supporters who will match 100% of donations up to $100,000.

Co-headlining the intimate gathering are two indie-rock icons – virtuosic guitarist and deft lyricist Courtney Barnett and rock/folk/psychedelic powerhouse Kurt Vile. The festival will also feature beloved retro-soul outfit The California Honeydrops, breakout 17-year-old guitar phenomenon and her band Grace Bowers & The Hodge Podge; and genre-transcendent Bay Area artist/conjurer Skyway Man.

Founder Michael Nash produces the event as an annual celebration of and fundraiser for Mount Tamalpais State Park by his nonprofit organization, Roots & Branches Conservancy. To date, Sound Summit has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in support to Mount Tam.
