Members of the Marin County Bicycle Coalition have been remaining committed to maintaining 24/7 access to the multiuse path on the bridge. āWe would rather they keep their $1.6m and keep the trail open,ā Tarrell Kullaway, the organizationās director, said in an email. āWe do not believe that the things the trail pilot was supposed to test have been tested yet,ā Kullaway said. āIn particular, the toll plaza, where the biggest bottleneck occurs, and the lack of safe connections on the Marin side should be addressed before data can be deemed accurate.ā Kullaway also noted that the path from Main Street to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in San Rafael is incomplete, making access to and from the bridge on the Marin side challenging for some.

Capping a two-year effort, the board governing the Transportation Authority of Marin voted unanimously to accept the 200-page document at its meeting on June 26. The Tamalpais Valley project also has attracted criticism because of its location in an area that has been classified as a flood zone by the Federal Emergency Management Agency; the scant number of parking spaces being supplied; and its height. Several planning commissioners expressed concerns about these and other issues during a hearing on Thursday. County planning staff the county is powerless to mandate any changes that arenāt based on strict, objective design standards and gross threats to public health. āUnderstand that we cannot require any parking for this project,ā Marin County Planning Manager Jeremy Tejirian said.
