Steve Goldman

Mill Valley is chock full of incredibly successful, multi-talented people. So many of them share their talent with the larger community, and Steve Goldman, a world-recognized expert and pioneer in computer storage technology, founder of Distributed Processing Technology, is among them. Goldman and his wife split time between Mill Valley and Winter Park, Florida. He is deeply rooted in the arts, having served as President of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, and VP of the Marin Symphony.

Five years before Covid hit, Goldman had begun a music and film project called ‘Mill Valley Day’ that sought to highlight our amazing community and the people, the places, the nature and the vibrant connectivity we all cherish in the 94941.

There were a few hiccups along the way, particularly during Covid-driven pauses. Goldman put the music together using midi instruments. He received lots of supports and ideas, particularly the concept of creating a music video style.

Goldman had been turned onto Warren Williams, an excellent producer they brought in a 20-person film crew to help make It happen.

The ‘Mill Valley Day’ film below features lots of well known faces in and around town. “Once we finished the filming last summer, we brought in some really good musicians and eventually presented to the City Council.

“This is not a money-making project, this is a money-spending project, Goldman said to the City Council with a laugh earlier this week. “The goal was just to get as many people to witness the video and understand what an incredible place Mill Valley is. I just want to share it with as many people as possible. Mill Valley is a great model, in my opinion, for what an ideal town would be.”

“Goldman drew inspiration for the final scene’s boom shot, from the boom shot in “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” where the crowd sang ‘Charles Trénet’s ‘La Mer.’
