Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church continues its dive into the holiday season with a series of events and masses this month, starting with the Longest Night Service, an act of care for the community, on Wednesday, December 21 at 6:30pm. “The Holiday season is often marked by expressions of joy, excitement, and happiness, says Tricia Wiig, the church’s director of children, youth and family ministries. “However, this period of celebration can often overshadow the pain, hurt and loneliness that many experience during this time of year.”

“During this gathering, we will make space for and give voice to the elements of our lives and world which are weighing heavy on our hearts. This service is open to people of all faith traditions and will feature music, candles, poetry, and readings from sacred texts,” Wiig adds. All are welcome to join the service. It will last approximately 45 minutes and the sanctuary will remain open for silent meditation for 30 minutes after the service concludes. Email Rev. Luke here for more info.

On Christmas Eve at 4pm, the church hosts a ‘Wiggles & Giggles” mass, an informal, fun service designed for children and their families. Carols, interactive storytelling and the lighting of the Christ Candle involve all participants. The service is more casual than most and yet still conveys the beauty and wonder of Christmas.

At 7 pm, a: Traditional Candlelight Celebration sees the Mt. Tam Family Choir joining for a service of traditional carols and music, the reading of the Christmas story and singing of all the carols that bring the spirit of Christmas to your heart.

One day later, the Christmas Day service on Dec. 25th starts with 10:30am Cocoa, Cookies & Christmas Carols: Come in your PJs for a casual worship service. They’ll enjoy hot cocoa, cookies and sing all our favorite Christmas carols.

All services are at 410 Sycamore Ave in Mill Valley.
