The Grateful Dog Marin: Bobby Weir’s Former Doggy Daycare is Fighting to Stay Afloat After the King Tide Floods
Yet The Grateful Dog has always been built on community, connection, and a little bit of Marin magic. Our story is uniquely tied to the cultural fabric of this region. Before we even officially opened, members of the Grateful Dead — including Marin’s own late Bobby Weir — spotted our large sign from a distance. As the story goes, Bobby saw the name “The Grateful Dog” and said, “Well, fuckin’ A, man!” It was one of those unforgettable moments — spontaneous, heartfelt, and rooted in shared love for music, community, and dogs. We will continue to honor him. Like so many great business ideas, Karla Rivera-Cervantes and her husband Ernie conceived the concept behind their The Grateful Dog doggie daycare facility out of personal need.

Winterfest, the 94941’s annual holiday celebration produced by the Mill Valley Chamber and supported by the City of Mill Valley, returns to the Downtown Plaza on December 7th, drawing another massive outpouring of residents, participants and friends to celebrate the holidays! We’ll be unveiling all of the amazing local holiday performances in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, there’s plenty of excitement to chew on, including the return of the beautiful Electric Train that kept kiddos and their families busy and happy throughout the day last year.

The project involves building underground conduits for use by PG&E, AT&T and Comcast. It includes drilling horizontally under Highway 101. Construction will begin in early August and run though late October. Street parking will be limited during the project. The undergrounding will be followed by another phase that involves creating bike lanes, Moulton-Peters said.
“There’s been some initial work by the county looking at a bike path,” she said. “It will potentially open up right of way space that could be used as a bike lane. That could be helpful for adults and older students who want to ride from Strawberry over the pedestrian overcrossing into Mill Valley to go to the middle school.”
