Mill Valley has long been steeped in creative collaboration, whether it’s the likes of delicious Chinese-American Mamahuhu expanding its book club into Mill Valley with support from the venerable Mill Valley Public Library, or the absolutely incredible collaboration over the holidays in 2024 with the amazing Sip ‘n Shop, throughout downtown.

Now a pair of longstanding neighboring businesses on Throckmorton are teaming up on Sunday, January 26th to host a combination event in their adjacent spaces.

Aerena Galleries (55 Throcknorton) is serving up an Art Showcase, a sale and live music at 1pm with wine provided by Blackbird Vineyards from 2-5pm, and Surf + Sand‘s (53 Throckmorton Ave.) new owner Janis Ganaden showcasing her shop’s gorgeous retail shop all day, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Since she opened her beach-centric Surf + Sand shop in February 2022, Lauren Friis has paid homage to beach culture and sustainability. In doing so, she deeply engaged with her customers and community in a variety of ways, including co-hosting a post-Mill Valley Film Festival 20th anniversary screening of Blue Crush, the 2002 film based on “Life’s Swell,” author Susan Orlean’s 1998 Outside magazine story about a real-life group of young teenage surfer girls in Hana, a small town in Maui, Hawaii.
