As readers of this space know all too well, Mill Valley is home to some of the best restaurants in the Bay Area, as has been on display in recent years with the annual Mill Valley Restaurant Rally, with restaurants including Piatti, Piazza D’Angelo, Playa, Paseo Bistro, Bungalow 44, Gravity Tavern, Corner Bar, Watershed, Rock + Rye at Sweetwater Music Hall and Buckeye Roadhouse.
Now comes word from the San Francisco Chronicle that a treasured San Francisco restaurant is opening in the Presidio, though it could be quite some time until they swing open the front doors.
According to food reporter fter nearly two decades in the Dogpatch neighborhood, beloved San Francisco restaurant Piccino is expanding to two new locations – first in the Presidio and, likely in Mill Valley in early 2026, set at 242 Redwood Highway Frontage Rd., the space near Seaplane Adventures facility along the waterfront.
Piccino, which owners Margherita Sagan and Sheryl Rogat opened in 2006, is adding two new locations: first in the Presidio, and then another across the bay in Mill Valley.
Piccino plans to open in February at 1 Letterman Drive, where Sessions at the Presidio will close later this month, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The Mill Valley location at 242 Redwood Highway Frontage Road, near the waterfront, is set to debut later next year or in early 2026, and will be called Piccino Sull’Acqua. Both outposts will channel the Piccino ethos — seasonal food with Italian influence, from veggie-heavy pasta to pizzas — but have their own identities based on their chefs and locations, owners said.
