We’ll be honest: for much of the week leading up to Winterfest, the 94941’s annual holiday celebration on Dec. 4, the event’s organizers at the Mill Valley Chamber and Steve Bajor’s TeamPro Event were refreshing our weather apps WAAAAY too frequently, staring at the “100% chance of rain” throughout the week.
We knew going into it each year that there is the significant likelihood of inclement weather – the word WINTER is in the name of the event, right?
But much of the day proceeded with a smattering of brief showers early, bright blue skies for most of it, and then a run-for-cover downpour at the end, concluding with another dry spell that allowed Mayor Jim Wickham to lead the the throngs on the plaza for a countdown to the Holiday Tree Lighting.
The event was a huge success, with another fantastic lineup of singers, dancers and musicians to perform throughout the day and a bunch of great children’s games and activities like the giant rainbow slide, a jumpy house, cornhole and an array of additional activities. Santa was on the Plaza as well, meeting children and families, listening to present requests and taking photos with them.
The afternoon was filled with activities and the opportunity to eat, drink and shop at venues all over downtown !
The day kicked off with one of Winterfest’s annual highlights, as the Happy Feet Dance School dancers tapped their way into our hearts once again. The Tam High Holiday Ensemble followed with some holiday favorites, followed by the acoustic genius of The Millbillys. A pair of dancers from the Marin Conservatory of Dance followed, wowing the crowd with a gorgeous ballet performance. Marin Girls Chorus followed with some beautiful songs from the Sweetwater Stage before Roco Dance & Fitness flipped the day on its head with a bassy, kinetic performance that was riveting and creative. Singers Marin and Chabad Mill Valley teamed up for a rousing presentation of more holiday gems.
