When Heather Hardcastle and her husband Rick Perko opened the second location of their gluten-free Flour Craft Bakery in April 2018 at the Mill Valley Lumber Yard, they did so with the intent to use the new space as a platform to expand their offerings, creating “be more fully realized vision of what Flour Craft can be.”
Sixteen months on, they’re building on the success of the MVLY location to do the same at their
original storefront, located at 702 San Anselmo Avenue in San Anselmo. Hardcastle and Perko are closing their San Anselmo shop from August 12-15 to renovate the space to accommodate an expanded menu including the same breakfast, lunch & made-to-order items as their Mill Valley cafe. The menu will be plant-based, featuring local produce sourced directly from farmers, and will rotate often, based on seasonality. They will continue to offer their gluten-free baked goods, breads, and pastries that have become their hallmark. Hardcastle says she hopes to reopen the San Anselmo space on Friday, Aug. 16.
“If we’re doing our job well, the food should stand on its own. The fact that it’s gluten-free is a great bonus, but it’s not the only draw,” adds Hardcastle.
