In the run up to this summer’s Throckmorton Youth Performers‘ theatrical production of Hairspray in August, the community arts hub is also hosting a Hairspray Costume Camp. Attendees ages 10-16 can get an introduction into creating various costume pieces for the Throckmorton’s colorful summer production of Hairspray!

Students will learn basic sewing, design, construction and measurement in this week long camp culminating in the wardrobing of many Hairspray costume pieces. “Discover your inner designer this summer!” says Throckmorton Education Manager Reba Gilbert. The camp runs July 23-27, 9am-4pm. MORE INFO.

The Throckmorton Youth Performers’ performances of Hairspray are set for Aug. 3-5 and Aug. 10-12. The shows come on the heels of two sessions of musical theatre summer camp based on Hairspray, which dives into the 2002 classic musical based on the 1988 John Waters film, as plump, dance-loving teenager Tracy Turnblad rises to stardom on a 1960s Baltimore TV show. That camp is packed with acting, singing and dancing and the final series of productions on stage.

The Hairspray theatrical sessions offer rich, engaging theatrical experiences for young performers of all backgrounds and abilities, taught by a staff of professional artists who teach and perform in the Bay Area.

“Join us this summer and discover the excitement of the performing arts while your students learn to build confidence, inspire leadership and foster the development of social skills that they can use for the rest of their lives,” Gilbert adds.
