Celebration includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce and is the latest step in the $32 million revitalization of senior community at Camino Alto and Miller Avenue.
The Shop at the Redwoods, a consignment shop that serves the public and residents of The Redwoods senior community, is holding a Grand Re-Opening celebration, complete with a Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony, on Saturday, November 8 from 12–4pm at 40 Camino Alto.

The free event celebrates the modernization and expansion of the Shop, which has been in operation for 16 years. The event is the latest step in the $32 million revitalization of 40-year-old campus of The Redwoods.

Run by community volunteers Redwoods residents, the Shop sells consigned and donated furniture, jewelry, home accessories, art work, antiques and collectibles. Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12–4pm. All proceeds go towards supporting programs for residents of The Redwoods.

“The Shop has been transformed,” says San Rafael resident Betty Spurr, who has managed The Shop on a volunteer basis since it first opened in 1998. “We have doubled the space, which allows us to take more merchandise, and we are in a lovely setting that is more accessible to the general public.”

“We are several notches above the usual consignment shop,” Spurr adds. “We are very particular about what we accept and offer high quality merchandise to customers from Marin and beyond. The Shop does about $20,000 per year in sales, but with this expansion, we anticipate being able to provide even more financial support to programs at The Redwoods.”

Spurr also notes that The Shop is seeking additional volunteers.

Expansion of The Shop is one part of the overall Revitalization project of The Redwoods, which has been underway for over a year and will continue into 2015. For more information about The Shop, including how to donate or consign items or  to volunteer, call The Redwoods at  415.383-2741 ext. 256.
