Mercer spotted a for-lease sign at the intersection of Shoreline Hwy. and Almonte Blvd., a space so large at 6,000 square feet that she could manifest the community hub she’d sought for ages: part retail, part creative outlet and part community gathering space in which to host events – or allow others to use the massive space to do so.

Leslie Allen’s paintings are a testament to a life immersed in culture. The paintings contain deft references to art history, literature and an abiding love of music. A cello player, Allen’s most lyrical paintings surely take their cue from music. She paints with an ear for rhythm, tone and a love of subtle crescendos of movement and form. She shares Kandinsky’s belief in hearing as well as seeing as a way to make art. “Form itself,” said Kandinsky, “even if completely abstract … has its own inner sound.”

For her current exhibit, “Mill Valley,” Barrengos “celebrates a town where you can stumble out the front door, head off in any direction, and find beauty. The work is purposefully simplified and fantastical, painted with acrylic on linen in a 20×16-inch vertical format. This consistency and directness underscores how remarkable this town is.”
