Nominations Are Now Open for the 2025 Milley Awards for Creative Achievement – This 33-Year-Old Mill Valley Gala Sponsored by the MV Arts Commission & Volunteer Committee Honors Local Artists in a Variety of Categories & Who Have Contributed Greatly to the Arts Community of Mill Valley
Nominations are now open for the 2025 Milley Awards for Creative Achievement. This 33-year-old Mill Valley gala event sponsored by the Mill Valley Arts Commission and the volunteer Milley Executive Committee, honors local artists in the literary, visual, musical, and performance arts as well as those who have contributed greatly to the arts community of Mill Valley. Nominations with a maximum of 10 pages of supporting materials for each candidate are due at Mill Valley City Hall no later than noon on Thursday, April 17. No matter the time of year, Mill Valley is buzzing with activity. The small, yet vibrant town is a paradise for artsy souls, from film fanatics to theater lovers. In fact, the town hosts an array of annual artsy events like the Mill Valley Film Festival. Taking place each October, this 11-day event draws in thousands of cinephiles, screening creations from over 200 filmmakers in the town’s local theaters. Furthermore, if you visit during the summer, you can catch the Mountain Play, an outdoor musical production put on by the local theater troupe. This annual play is set on the Cushing Memorial Amphitheater stage against a breathtaking mountain backdrop.

Monica Barbaro, 34, who grew up in Mill Valley and went to Tam High, (home of the Bay Area’s M Ill Valley Film Festival) just scored a nomination for best supporting actress for her role in “A Complete Unknown,” the Bob Dylan biopic. The Bay Area isn’t a feature film superpower, but it pulls its weight in awards season, according to SFGate. The region also scored a well-deserved nomination for “Inside Out 2. The Bob Dylan biopic scored eight Oscar nominations, including a best picture nod and an actor nomination for Timothée Chalamet’s portrayal of the icon. Barbaro plays the legendary folk musician Joan Baez, who becomes romantically entangled with Dylan as they tour together.

Seven accomplished Mill Valley residents will be honored at an elegant program and buffet supper from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, October 27 at the Mill Valley Community Center. The six will receive bronze statuettes designed by the late sculptor John Libberton. Mill Valley is the only city in Marin County that officially recognizes the talents and achievements of people in the arts.
