Marin IJ: Bay Area Planners to Poll Residents on Transportation Tax
āWe are supportive of a measure to go forward,ā Marin County Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters, a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, said at its special meeting on Monday. āI have always supported a 10-year measure, just trying to get closer to the problem at hand, but Iām sympathetic to other organizations that may need capital projects to get the votes they need to pass.ā

With the presidential transition moving quickly, a very different set of questions and possible solutions are presenting themselves: Gov. Gavin Newsom said this week that California will step in and provide rebates to eligible residents who buy electric vehicles if President-elect Donald J. Trump ends the $7,500 federal E.V. tax credit. āWe will intervene if the Trump administration eliminates the federal tax credit, doubling down on our commitment to clean air and green jobs in California,ā Mr. Newsom, a Democrat, said in a statement. āWeāre not turning back on a clean transportation future ā weāre going to make it more affordable for people to drive vehicles that donāt pollute.ā

Caleb Roope, chief executive officer of the Pacific Companies, the projectās developer. āThat isnāt how we see it.ā Roope said the bonds were issued long ago and purchased by Citibank. He said the ruling has failed to shake Citibankās confidence in the project. āEverybody takes for granted that youāre not going to be able to unwind approvals that have already happened,ā Roope said. āThe ruling doesnāt have an effect on what weāre doing and our ability to proceed.ā Roope said his company owns the land in Marin City and has all of the needed approvals.
