A pair of films that will likely receive considerable attention at the 87th Academy Awards in four months kicked off the Opening Night of the 37th Mill Valley Film Festival on Thursday night, and a rousing party at the Corte Madera Town Center finished it off in glamorous fashion.
The evening began with a VIP reception at the Outdoor Art Club in downtown Mill Valley, with two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank, star of the Tommy Lee Jones-directed opening night film The Homesman, and Men, Women & Children director Jason Reitman as the featured guests.
The festivities then moved to the CineArts @ Sequoia Theatre across the street and to the Century Cinema in Corte Madera for the respective screenings of those films. And then everyone headed to the Town Center, where food from Balboa Café, Big Jim’s BBQ, Caribbean Spices, Equator Coffees, Il Fornaio, Johnny Doughnuts, Judy’s Breadsticks, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Pig in a Pickle and Pizza Antica awaited, along with drinks from Lagunitas Brewing Company, with live music from The Brothers Comatose and tunes spun by The Crackerjack DJs.
