With its 16th annual The Art of the Book exhibit in May, the Seager Gray Gallery continued one of its renowned exhibitions built around creative mediums.

And this month, its 8th Material Matters exhibit does the same, unveiling an array of work that focuses on artists who interact with their materials in original ways, often pushing the boundaries of what their medium can achieve. It’s open through June 27 (Wed.-Sat., 12-5pm, Sun, 12-4pm and by appointment via Zoom or FaceTime).

The exhibit includes San Rafael photographer Liz Steketee’s lens on family, “the fluidity and and ever-changing nature of memory and a sense of self in search of life’s ‘truth,’ she told the Marin Independent Journal. Steketee transfers photos onto fabric, wraps and sews them around rocks and sticks, dyes them and seals them with varnish, a radical departure from her previous straight-forward photography.

SEAGER GRAY IS AT 108 THROCKMORTON AVENUE.
