Poet and the Bench

Calligraphy by Sarah Hanna

For many years leading up to the dawn of the pandemic, innovative Mill Valley retailers have hosted immersive experiential events to more intimately connect their customers to the makers and creators that showcase their wares in those shops. Save for a few glimmers of normalcy over the past 18 months, most of that immersion has ground to a halt over the past 18 months.

But with the delta surge on a steady decline since its peak in mid-August in Marin, retailers are dipping their toes back into masked, socially distanced small gatherings. Poet and/the Bench (11 Throckmorton Ave. at El Paseo Lane) is hosting one such event – a live calligraphy event with artist Sarah Hanna – outside the El Paseo Lane entrance to its shop on Saturday, Sept. 11 (12-3pm).

“Join us and Sarah for on-site calligraphy as we amplify positive affirmations during these troubling times,” says Bonnie Powers, the shop’s curator and co-owner. “We have cards started, which you can complete. Like: I am amazed by your… or Your love makes me feel… or My super power is…”

Hanna will personalize cards after guests have made their purchase ($20 minimum). If you can’t make it to the event, you can buy online on Saturday and they’ll honor the gift and arrange for your affirmation to be created.
