‘Unprecedented’ Housing Project at Seminary in Strawberry Moves Forward Amid Neighbor Pushback
Famed architect Mark Cavagnero, who designed the project, did not return calls seeking comment, but he told the Chronicle in 2019 that the fight has “been a big, big, big taste of NIMBYism the likes of which I’ve never experienced.” “There is no property anywhere near this size anywhere in southern Marin, if not all of Marin, that would be available and zoned for housing,” Cavagnero said at the time. “This is important not only for the housing we can build — workforce housing, affordable housing, senior housing — but also on an exemplary basis.”

Marin IJ: Mill Valley Marsh Restoration Effort Lands $670,000 Grant
“The marsh itself is currently drowning through this muted tidal effect,” said Rob LaPorte, a project manager at the conservancy. “It takes longer for the tides to drain from the marsh than a normal functioning marsh.” “So we’re losing vegetation and we’re losing whole sections of the marsh to wave erosion,” he said. “We’re making sure we get a project implemented as fast as possible in order to restore the marsh and all of the rare wildlife and plants it supports.”
SF Chronicle: Here are 21 New Laws that Californians Must Start Following in 2025

Dick Spotswood: Here’s Why Traffic Congestion on Marin’s Local Roads is Getting Worse
The post-pandemic trend to work from home has decreased the number of Marin residents commuting to San Francisco. Those new home-based workers patronize local restaurants, retail shops, grocery stores, bars and exercise venues, all by car. That’s why most Marin downtowns are vibrant. Marin’s prosperous residents want their property in top condition. Mill Valley City Manager Todd Cusimano reports that, this past year, 1,272 building permits were issued with a total valuation of $98 million. That means large numbers of contractors, landscapers and tradespeople coming and going.
Marin IJ: Bay Area Planners to Poll Residents on Transportation Tax
“We are supportive of a measure to go forward,” Marin County Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters, a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, said at its special meeting on Monday. “I have always supported a 10-year measure, just trying to get closer to the problem at hand, but I’m sympathetic to other organizations that may need capital projects to get the votes they need to pass.”
