The North Santa Rosa home of Mill Valley Fire Chief Tom Welch was destroyed in the Santa Rosa fire overnight, one of a series of North Bay fires whose impact is being felt hard here in Mill Valley. Welch and his family are safe – Welch is among at least a half dozen Mill Valley Fire Department personnel actively assisting the community with firefighting and evacuation efforts – but their home is gone.

Upon hearing the news, City of Mill Valley officials have set up a YouCaring site to raise money for the Welch family at this difficult time. City officials said as many as 10 other City employees have been evacuated from the areas impacted by the fire, and several more are on standby for evacuation.
