The six-county North Bay region for the second consecutive month reported a rise in unemployment rates, according to state figures released last Friday.

California’s unemployment rate remained at 5.2% for the third consecutive month, according to the state Employment Development Department.

Within the North Bay, two counties — Marin and Napa — reported unemployment rates of 4.1%, according to the state.

Throughout California, the largest increase in job opportunities was in state and local government. Private education and health services also showed growth in available jobs, as did the leisure and hospitality sectors, according to the EDD.

The trade, transportation and utilities sector recorded the largest month-over-month job loss, but still posted more jobs than a year earlier, according to the state employment agency.

Marin County

The unemployment rate in Marin County was 4.1% in July, up from a revised 3.8% in June. The county’s unemployment rate in July 2023 was 3.4%.

The county added jobs in construction, trade, transportation and utilities, leisure and hospitality. Fewer jobs were available in government.
