After more than a year in which we haven’t been able to gather together to revel in the power of the arts, we won’t be able to toast the creators and supporters of that art, as the organizers of the Milley Awards, Mill Valley’s annual celebration of the community’s vast  creative achievement and distinguished accomplishments in the arts, announced this week that they’re postponing the 2021 edition of the event.

“After much consideration and discussion, the Executive Committee for the Milley Awards have decided to postpone this year’s selection of honorees and annual October Dinner and Awards Ceremony until 2022,” organizers said in a statement, noting that a virtual retrospective celebrating past honorees is being planned for this fall.

The move comes  four months after organizers had vowed a 2021 return. In their announcement, the event’s executive committee reiterated its 2020 commitment to highlight artists embracing social and racial justice, and will be adding two new categories: “Diversity in the Arts” and “Young Artist” (17 and under) when calls for 2022 Milley Award nominations go out in early 2022.
