PictureA car-free Miller Ave. between Throckmorton and Sunnyside avenues will feature al fresco dining and outdoor markets from the evening of July 10 through July 12.

In recent weeks, particularly with the extremely short-lived return of indoor dining, restaurants have been incredibly creative in turning outdoor public and private spaces into hubs for al fresco dining, with a heavy dose of support from the City of Mill Valley and the Mill Valley Chamber in creating an urgency-minded road map for using that outdoor space.

Now the restaurant community is set to take the next big leap in that effort, starting downtown with a takeover of Miller Avenue between Throckmorton and Sunnyside avenues from Friday, July 10 at 4pm through Sunday, July 12 at 9pm. That one-block stretch of Miller will be blocked off for that duration, with Piazza D’AngeloUrban Remedy and Gravity Tavern serving food and retailers like The Goods hosting outdoor markets. all setting up tables and chairs in the street for service and dining under the stars. Retailers will be invited to set up racks on the sidewalk as part of an outdoor market.

There will be live music from Mill Valley’s own Michael White on Saturday evening, with more surprises on the way.

We hope this will be the first of many Miller Ave. Takeovers throughout the summer and fall.
