Chabad Mill Valley, the local chapter of one of the largest Hasidic groups and Jewish religious organizations in the world, has been in Mill Valley for more than a decade.

In that time, Chabad Mill Valley founders Rabbi Hillel and Chana Scop have put down deep roots in the community, raising their children near Mill Valley and offering an array of programs and services.

The organization previously ran a popular brock-n-mortar retail shop and an event-laden educational component in the row of shops near the Depot Plaza that also included Boo Koo and Postal Annex.

Rabbi Hillel and Chana Scop of Chabad of Mill Valley have been longstanding, integral components of out community.

Many people have wondered: What exactly is Chabad?

There are over 6,000 Chabad Houses around the world — it’s often said that “wherever you can find Coca-Cola, you can find Chabad!”

Each one is part of the Chabad network under the Chabad World Headquarters in New York, which provides spiritual direction and guidance.

Their shared dream is simple: To create spaces of Jewish warmth, learning, and connection.

They believe that there is so much more that unites, us than divides us. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, whose vision is the heartbeat behind every Chabad House in the world, inspired Chabad centers worldwide to live with open hearts, without judgment, and with deep respect for each person’s journey.

Rabbi Hillel and Chana Scop both grew up in non-religious homes, Chana in Vancouver, and Rabbi Hillel in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was through meeting Chabad that their lives were completely transformed.

Today, they are blessed with 10 beautiful children (ages 7 to 27, including three grandchildren). Their greatest joy is building community, sharing Jewish life and light, and creating meaningful, uplifting experiences for others, the same spark that changed their own lives.

Rabbi Hillel and Chana bring warmth, openness, and a genuine joy in connecting with others. Whether over tea, a text, or a warm Shabbat table, their hearts are open wide.

They believe that at the heart of it all, we’re each on a journey, and it’s always more meaningful when we travel it together.
