The City of Mill Valley’s annual “State of the City” events typically last about an hour and serve two purposes: give City leaders a chance to update the community about the progress made during the past year, and to hear from their constituents about ways to improve.
But as Mayor John McCauley and City Manager Alan Piombo prepare to deliver the annual update via Zoom at the Outdoor Art Club on Oct. 7, they might as well ask organizers, “How much time do you have?”
On the heels of 18 months of ferocious disruption at every turn, the pair have a lot of ground to cover. They’ll discuss affordable housing, traffic congestion, wildfire preparedness and emergency evacuations, facility and roadway upgrades, and ongoing initiatives related to diversity, equity and inclusion in Mill Valley. They will also discuss how the past year impacted the City’s financial health, the challenges on the horizon, and how the City plans to address them. A Q&A session will follow.
