On the heels of the stress, anxiety, and pain experienced by those impacted by the horrific North Bay fires, Critter Lovers at Work’s (CLAW) 20th Bark and Whine Ball is celebrating the recent, often-heroic efforts devoted to rescuing four-legged companions from the flames in Sonoma and Napa counties. CLAW is an all-volunteer 501c3 organization that produces events to raise community awareness and support for Bay Area animal rescue organizations.

The event, set for Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Design Center Galleria in San Francisco, benefits rescue organizations like Rocket Dog Rescue and Mill Valley-based SaveABunny, which have been active in the aftermath of the recent fires, as well as the U.S. War Dogs Association, which honors and furthers the tradition of K-9 support for our armed forces, including their rescue work.

The event also pays tribute to military veterans and their canine heroes/companions. Among the guests will be Navy SEAL Special Ops Trevor Maroshek and his 12-year-old German Shepherd Chopper, who saved not only Trevor’s life but many others, and is now a therapy dog helping Trevor with his PTSD.

Guests can walk the red carpet, sip wine from Anne Minkin’s Boisset Collection, sample food from McCall’s Catering, and listen to the Caribbean music of PanExtasy. Alexander’s Artisan Rugs’ owner and longtime professional auctioneer Richard Habib will lead a live auction at the event as well.

“Dress up your pet and dress up yourself – black tie optional,” Minkin says.
