Local legend Dan Hicks recently had to postpone his 2015 Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks tour to wage a serious health battle. In a post on his website, Hicks wrote:

The best made plans are sometimes intercepted by unforeseen forces. Unfortunately this indeed applies to the present Hot Licks touring schedule. Ill health has befallen me again. This time in the form of liver cancer. I firmly believe that the proper treatment will take care of this problem but good. In the meantime we’re putting the Hot Licks gigs on hold until perhaps late summer – doing a few local things for now. Who knew? Certainly not me – until recently. So thanks for the support and we’ll see ya soon.”

While we’ll all keep Hicks and his family in our hearts during his fight with cancer, we’ll also have an immediate opportunity to show him some local love. One of those local performances Hicks hinted at is this Wednesday, April 1, at the Sweetwater Music Hall, with his Bayside Jazz group.

Backed by a combo of seasoned pros, Hicks vocalizes the great jazz standards in his uniquely hip style, backed by members of the Hot Licks, Acoustic Warriors and “other swinging aggregations.”

“It’s a style with plenty of room, and I’ve been wanting to do this as a separate endeavor for quite some time,” Hicks says. “And don’t be surprised if you hear some new lyrics here and there in these songs.”

The 411: Dan Hicks and Bayside Jazz perform at the Sweetwater Music Hall on Wednesday, April 1 at 8pm. Tickets are $15. More info and to buy tickets.
