The folks at the Community Church of Mill Valley says there’s going to be a whole lot of strumming going on when four Bay Area singer/songwriters get together for a tuneful, high-energy performance under the title of “A Concert Featuring: Picking, Strumming & Singing, Oh Yeah!”

Set for Sunday, May 19 (4-6pm), the event features:

  • Caren Armstrong, who combines a highly accomplished guitar style with her intelligent, engaging lyrics, was named as one of the top 10 artists of the decade by KALW radio in 2010 and is “a mighty force in a petite package. At barely 5’2″ she is a living testament to the art of Self-Expression, according to Bob Stane Coffee Gallery Backstage in Pasadena.
  • Victoria Blythe combines jazz, folk and pop music into original songs in a style uniquely her own. Her songs have been used on TV and in movies including, Anywhere but Here. She is equally adept at guitar, fiddle, mandolin, bass, recorder and Native American flute.
  • Songwriter Greg Beattie excels at vocals, guitar and bass. He has won numerous songwriting awards including Kerrville New Folk, Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist, Grand Prize in the West Coast Songwriters International Song Contest and the Napa Valley Music Festival Emerging Artist Prize. He and partner Blythe have performed at many Bay Area venues in recent years with Calaveras, a band they co-founded.
  • Former Texan John Haley-Walker has been scooping up songwriting prizes since he arrived in the Bay Area in 1991. Known for his witty, engaging stage presence, his lyrics and beautiful melodies have been praised as “short stories in song form, from heartbreaking to sharply funny.”
