Richard Habib, the owner of Alexander’s Artisan Rugs in Mill Valley, is ostensibly in the rug business. But anyone who has followed the career of the inimitable Habib knows he’s incredibly well connected to the local music industry.

So it comes as no surprise that Habib has rounded up a stellar group of local musicians, including an acoustic set from local guitar great Jimmy Dillon, for his upcoming anniversary celebration on Saturday Sept. 15. The event, tied to Habib’s 40 years in the rug business as well as the 2nd birthday of the latest incarnation of his multi-faceted rug shop along the landmark brick walkway at 1 El Paseo Lane, kicks off at 12pm with an open house and free rug appraisal clinic, followed by a VIP cocktail reception from 6-9pm. Dillon will perform a live acoustic set from 6:30-7:30pm in the El Paseo courtyard along with Susan Cooperman on saxophone and Kashia T on percussion.

“I still can’t believe it’s been 40 years – it’s taken a lot of twists and turns, and I’m so grateful to my friends, family and customers for being with me through it all.”
