The recent fires in Maui, now the deadliest conflagration in modern U.S. history, has left us all shocked and saddened, and the mountainous recovery the people face in the coming months and beyond is unfathomable.
Given the popularity of Maui among Mill Valley and Bay Area vacationers, and just the sheer horror of this tragedy, the Mill Valley Chamber is teaming up with Vintage Ruse, Jules Mercer’s multi-faceted, 6,000-square-foot space at 256 Shoreline Hwy., at the intersection with Almonte Blvd. in the heart of Tam Junction. The massive space allows Mercer to manifest the community hub she’d sought for ages: part retail, part creative outlet and part community gathering space in which to host events – or allow others to rent some or all of the massive space to do so.
The latest event is set for Thursday, August 17th from 6:30-pm-10:30pm with 100% of proceeds going straight to to the Maui Food Bank, which has been given the monumental task of feeding people in the aftermath of a tragedy that has seen its death toll rise to 96 people.
The event kicks off at 6:30pm with Musical Feast, Vintage Ruse’s weekly house band featuring country folk rock covers, originals and classic cover songs. They’ll play for approx. two hours.
Musical Feast will be followed by the Crackerjack DJ’s, longtime Bay Area turntable aficionados who spin a wide blend of sounds, from soul, funk & hip hop to Afrobeat, Brazilian and block-rockin’ beats from around the globe.
Entry to the event is $10. Throughout the evening, Mediterranean Paella will be served. The meal deal – food and entry – is $20 per person.
Again, all proceeds will go directly to the Maui Food Bank.
