Nearly two months before it kicks off October 6, the organizers of the 39th Mill Valley Film Festival have announced a major score, landing for its Closing Night the film “Loving,” the tale of an interracial couple that fought for the right to marry, a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court in 1967.

The film, which made its world premiere at this year’s Cannes International Film, stars Joel Egerton and Ruth Negga as Richard and Mildred Loving. It was written and directed by Jeff Nichols, best known for acclaimed films like “Midnight Special” and “Mud.”

Nichols, Edgerton and Negga are scheduled to attend the Oct. 16th Closing Night screening, which will be followed by a Closing Night Party at Cavallo Point.
