With school back in session and the fall season upon us, Mill Valley is buzzing with activity, particularly with the Fall Arts Festival and Film Festival coming soon.

But while those events brings plenty of arts & entertainment lovers to town, the fall is also home to a quintessential event for locals, in the form of the 17th Annual Mill Valley Community Block Party, set for Sunday, September 27 from 1pm–5:30pm.

Throckmorton Ave. will be blocked off between Bernard Street and Corte Madera Avenue, and families can enjoy live music, kids games, great food and more from 1–5:30pm. The event is free, and donations and proceeds will benefit Kiddo!, which provides music, art, physical education and other support services to Mill Valley schools.

Block Party creator and organizer Larry “the Hat” Lautzker has lined up a trio of local bands for the occasion – The 85’s (4pm), Lumanation (2pm) and the Incubators (1pm). The fashion show starts at 3pm, with local stores The Store, Branded, Margaret O’Leary, and Uko participating.

There’s also a beer garden from Lagunitas Brewing Co., margaritas from Laughing Glass Cocktails, tasty food from Urban Remedy, BooKoo and Piazza D’Angelo and plenty of games for kids.

Lautzker created the Community Block Party in 1998 as a grand opening party for his Famous4 clothing store and 96 Throckmorton Avenue and has party going ever since.
