Longtime Mill Valley Whole Foods Patrons See the Closure of the Miller Location as a Massive Blow – What Comes Next for the Beloved Quonset Hut Building, and Who Can Repurpose It for the Benefit of the Town?

Longtime Mill Valley Whole Foods Patrons See the Closure of the Miller Location as a Massive Blow – What Comes Next for the Beloved Quonset Hut Building, and Who Can Repurpose It for the Benefit of the Town?

Many residents find it hard to believe that Amazon—one of the richest companies in the world—couldn’t afford the necessary building updates. Mill Valley Mayor Stephen Burke sought to squash the idea that the City obstructed seismic retrofits that were necessary, and made it clear in a statement: “The City regrets the potential closure of the Whole Foods, which is an important community resource. The decision to close, if true, is based on business considerations that the City is not privy to. Our First Tuesday Artwalk Artist is Beth Davila Waldman! She’ll Show Her Work on Oct. 7th from 5:30-7:30pm and Throughout the full Month of October. Her Show Is Entitled: ‘Desert Intersections’!

Beth Davila Waldman is a cross-disciplinary artist using photography, painting, assemblage and installation. Her work explores the impact of socio-political trends on cultural landscapes, often through imagery laden with indicators of economic and social status, presented in a manner that emulates the sheer stress of imposed change. Waldman’s constructed vistas re-conceive the notion of sanctuary amidst the realities of colonization, and invite meditations on civil access. Waldman imbues her work with a unique materiality by printing or transferring photographs on a plethora of materials—from tarp to sails, canvas to paper.
