May brings another treat as The Sound of Music, the heartwarming, beloved Rogers and Hammerstein musical based on the real-life story of Maria and the von Trapp Family, comes to the stage at the Throckmorton Theatre. Starring in The Sound of Music cast is Katrina Lauren McGraw as Maria Rainer, with stage veteran David Schiller as Captain Von Trapp. Directed by Adam Maggio, with choreography by Erin Gentry, music direction by Justin Pyne and vocal direction by Sergey Khalikulov.
“I grew up watching this movie—as most of us did—and I knew every song, every dance, everything,” says McGraw, who plays Maria Rainer. “It wasn’t until the first table read that it really hit me that I was actually getting to play this role – I started singing The Sound of Music and I got choked up. I never thought someone would let me play this role, and I didn’t even realize how much I wanted to. I also love that we aren’t using ‘color blindness’ with this which brings a whole new perspective and level to the show as a whole. I’m a very different Maria than people are used to seeing, but I hope I can win audiences’ hearts just the same.”
The performances are set for May 13-15, May 20-22 and May 27-29. Tix are #0 GA, $25 for students and $45 for reserved seating.
