The Local Trade, which launched earlier this year, offers 1-day woodworking experiences in Marin and San Francisco.

Class attendees enjoy the relaxing art of making something with your own hands, while crafting pieces that endure and meeting others from the community. All experience levels are welcome.

“We’re at a turning point in our culture,” says Sanchez. “People are seeking experiences, wanting the chance to make something of their own.

“I wanted to take woodshop in high school,” says Sanchez. “My counselor steered me in a different direction. I was on the college path. The same thing has been happening for generations in America. In pointing a majority of students toward knowledge work, our culture has lost the expertise and the rewards of working with our hands while also creating a shortage of professionals working in skilled labor.”

“The Local Trade exists to teach the people who will build our future,” he says. “Together with a team of instructors, mentors, and advocates who share the passion for bringing tradecraft to the next generation, we are excited to offer woodworking classes to the community.”

“So many of us come from a place knowledge where we’re doing knowledge work, and we’re not creating something tangible with our own hands.” he says. “Attendees are leaving the classes impressed with what they’re crafting.”

“I expected it to be cool, but I was very surprised by how good it felt to get away from the screen and build something old-school,” said a recent recipient at a spoon carving class participant.

The Local Trade has hosted multiple hand tool and machine tool classes, with more on the way. Sanchez has also hosted his first private event, with other team building and group experiences planned in the future.
