Organizers of the 42nd Mill Valley Film Festival are continuing the festival’s tradition of producing an accompanying live music series of artists and bands connected to MVFF films. In doing so, they’ve ensured that the Sweetwater Music Hall will be home to an incredibly diverse lineup of music from Oct. 4-10 for MVFF Music, six nights of shows from a wide array of bands. 

MVFF Music’s eclectic nights of live music include performances by artists featured in MVFF films, as well as local, national, and international musicians. Here they are:

Johnny & June Forever – Friday, Oct. 4
Come on down for a night of country, western, rhythm, and blues, framed by the greatest love story ever sung! The Johnny and June Forever tribute revue pays brilliant homage to these country legends, featuring “I Walk the Line”, “Jackson,”Ring of Fire,” and many more! Show 9pm. Tix $24. MORE INFO & TIX.

Hayes Carll – Saturday, Oct. 5
Grammy-nominated Texas native Hayes Carll brings a down-home Americana vibe to MVFF Music and Sweetwater Music Hall with roots-oriented songwriting acclaimed for its plainspoken poetry and barbed humor. Ace of Cups – Sunday, Oct. 6
Ace of Cups formed in San Francisco in 1967 and have been described as one of the first all-female rock bands, making their mark in the burgeoning counterculture of the 1960s, with a psychedelic soul sound and soaring harmonies. Take 55 | The Film Tour Featuring Petra Hanson and Gaijin A Go-Go – Monday, Oct. 7
Gaijin à Go-Go brings an infectious Japanese pop sound to the rhythms of 1960s style go-­go music. This Brooklyn-based band infuses infectious, offbeat charm into their music and live shows, bringing the arty with a capital P to every stage! Show 8pm. Tix $19. MORE INFO & TIX.

Little Hurricane – Tuesday, Oct. 8
San Diego’s blues-driven Little Hurricane brings a heavy dose of restless rhythm and hooks to their lived-in vintage stage set soon to grace the Sweetwater stage. Catch this down-and-dirty duo on the rise, sure to bring some fiery heat to Marin County!

Alice Gerrard – Thursday, Oct. 10
In a career spanning some 50 years, Alice Gerrard has known, learned from, and performed with many of the old-time bluegrass greats and has earned worldwide respect for her own important contributions to the music.
