The Redwoods, A Community of Seniors in Mill Valley, Touts Environmental & Cost Reduction for Residents: Participation in Marin Municipal Water Program Has Reduced Water Usage by 33%!
The Redwoods, Mill Valley’s Community of Seniors, has been working to reduce its water usage through participation in Marin Water’s “Cash for Grass” program that offers rebates to homeowners and businesses that replace grass with drought tolerant landscapes. Since completing the project in August, The Redwoods, home to over 300 low- and moderate-income seniors, has achieved a reduction of water usage by a third over last year.

“We find that happiness is aligned with specific quality of life ratings. In particular, jobs, leisure, and housing,” Baldassare said, according to the report. “In our polling, we also looked at personal finance. But the biggest change we’ve seen over time has been satisfaction with jobs, which went from 52% saying they were very satisfied in our first polling to 31% today.” Other polling, by Gallup, asked Californians to rate their satisfaction of life from 1 to 10. A research team from the University of Oxford then compiled all 215,801 responses into a map of the state, broken down by county.

One of the Redwoods, Mill Valley’s Community of Seniors’ most cherished events returned last year after a four-year hiatus. The Annual Bazaar is back in full force again in 2024, with dates set for Friday, October 18th (10am-3pm) and Sunday, October 19 (10am-3pm). The Bazaar is a resident-sponsored fundraiser that supports their programs and activities. The resident-sponsored fundraiser supports Redwoods programs and activities. In the Boutique, visitors can expect to find vintage clothing, framed works of art, and many exceptional items. Available in other locations are china, glassware, knitwear, books, electronic devices, succulents, baked goods, and more treasures.

Prader-Willi Homes of California has announced ALIVE AND KICKING, a benefit concert on Sunday, October 6, at the iconic Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. This evening will bring together a stellar lineup of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass favorites, including Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes, Bill Kirchen, Austin de Lone, the legendary Lost Planet Airmen – five original members of Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen. The show will raise crucial funds for Prader-Willi Homes of California, formerly known as The Richard de Lone Special Housing Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to establishing and supporting residential living for individuals with Prader-Willi syndrome. “I love the duality of our program,” says Jennifer Morris, a longtime supporter of the program. “Families benefit from the free learn-to-swim lessons, high schoolers benefit from meaningful, hands-on volunteer experience,” noting that the program has one paid Site Supervisor position, which they fill with a high school student. “The paid position is a great opportunity for a high schooler to get leadership experience.”
