With Janis Ganaden taking the helm of the business in 2024, Ganaden in mixing it up a bit in March, hosting an Eartl Career Counseling Discussion via the The Hull Agency, which can help your recent or soon-to-be graduate start on a clear and confident career path. The event, set for March 18th, 6pm-7:30pm, features speakers Erin Hull and Christine Calegari.

Now a pair of longstanding neighboring businesses on Throckmorton are teaming up on Sunday, January 26th to host a combination event in their adjacent spaces. Aerena Galleries is serving up an Art Showcase, a sale and live music at 1pm with wine provided by Blackbird Vineyards from 2-5pm, and Surf + Sand’s (53 Throckmorton Ave.) new owner Janis Ganaden showcasing her shop’s gorgeous retail shop all day at 53 Throckmorton Ave., with a portion of the proceeds going to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. 

Surf + Sand owner Lauren Friis is hosting her annual (2nd year) Makers Market, where they support other local women-owned businesses through creativity! There will be more than 9 vendors there (10 including us) and possibly more coming. Women’s and kids’ clothing, shoes, jewelry, photography, art, accessories, flowers, and more! Some of these artists are local Mill Valley moms, others are Bay Area natives. Many of these artists have won awards and much more! Senna Case is owned by local Mill Valley social media influencer Chantelle Paige. Elizée Shoes is a brand that has been worn by the likes of Brooke Shields. 

With the looming one-year anniversary of her arrival in town, Makiyevskiy has much more on the way, specifically a One-Year Anniversary Party All Day on Sat., Feb. 11. “We have tons of brands coming into town and sample sales and more!”

Since she opened her beach-centric Surf + Sand shop earlier this year, MV resident Lauren Friis has paid homage to beach culture and sustainability. She’s walking the walk in October, continuing the post-MVFF fun with a 20th anniversary screening of Blue Crush.
