You thought the Sweetwater Music Hall was just one of the historically greatest live music venues in the Bay Area, bringing in dynamite performances night after night, on top of boasting a fantastic restaurant and a multi-faceted support system for artists.
The Sweetwater always something else up its proverbial sleeve.
On Friday, August 30th, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, the Sweetwater is hosting a “Jaws” music and movie night, with a musical tribute to Jaws by The Shark Alley Hobos, followed by a screening of the horror classic “Jaws.”
As Marin Independent Journal legend Paul Liberatore wrote, “This may be the most ingenious album Press Play has reviewed so far this year. The Shark Alley Hobos, a Marin band that specializes in sea shanties, has written and recorded “Off the Deep End,” a musical tribute to the movie “Jaws.”
The band is headed by singer-songwriter Che Prasad, a pathologist at Marin General Hospital. The idea for the album was sparked two years ago, when Prasad and his musician brother Mikie Lee went to England to take a songwriting course from Ray Davies of the Kinks.
“One of our assignments was to write a song about our favorite movie,” Prasad says. “Mikie and I both independently chose ‘Jaws,’ which Ray found very intriguing.”
All ages, free. Doors open at 7pm, music at 8pm, “Jaws” at 9pm.
