As many of us have known for the past many months, it is with very heavy hearts that we share the tragic loss of our brother and dear friend, Sean McGrew. Sean passed away suddenly, tragically, but peacefully on Friday, February 28th. Sean was born and raised in San Francisco and had long career in Recreation and Parks. Contributions are much appreciated and will go towards Memorial Benches in both San Francisco and Mill Valley.

Join us in celebrating the life and memories of our friend and loved one Sean O’Neill McGrew. We will gather to honor the joy, love, and cherished memories that Sean brought to our lives.

The event is set for Friday, August 1st, 2025 at Trocadero Clubhouse, Stern Grove, San Francisco, from 5-8pm.

Please share this invitation to friends we may have missed. If possible, please RSVP to carlifullerton@gmail.com or oskar_rosas@hotmail.com. Casual dress and aloha spirit welcome.

McGrew was named Arts & Recreation Director in June 2021 after a 16-month stint as the Interim Arts & Recreation Director. Then-City Manager Alan Piombo announced move, with McGrew taking took over for Jenny Rogers in late 2019. “During his many years in Recreation, Sean has demonstrated visionary and collaborative leadership and the ability to lead and motivate staff, as well as working with a diverse workforce and community,” Piombo said at the time. He “has managed the Recreation Department’s response to the pandemic, providing emergency shelter for fire evacuees, and the re-envisioning of the City’s Arts and Recreation programs.”

McGrew had announced his retirement after more than 40 years of service in the municipal arts and recreation sector.
