Bonnie Powers and Jeffrey Levin, owners of the multi-faceted Poet and/the Bench lifestyle store and jewelry atelier space at 11 Throckmorton Ave., are showcasing a new Artist Exhibit – Fieldwork: Soil and Soul from the Topanga Canyon-based artist Danielle Hutchens, through December 31.
“Danielle’s artwork is modern and down to earth with its neutral palette, pops of colors, and shapes, lines, and textures inspired from the world around her,” says co-curator Powers.
“Style and beauty are inherent in her compositions. The artist uses a combination of natural pigments, acrylics, oil pastels and charcoal; she sources natural pigments from stones collected on hikes that she determines to have color, grinding them to powder and using water and walnut oils on raw canvas to let their color make art. These foraged and hand made pigments are archival.”
A former art director and graphic designer, Danielle has a considered approach to her craft. Both a patient process of developing and working with natural materials and a translation of how she sees the world, its wild forms, and the balancing of feminine and masculine energy and themes.
